PLAN C’S COMMUNITY ROAD TRIP KICKS OFF IN LOS ANGELES WITH THE TURNAWAY PLAY

Los Angeles, brace yourself.

This Sunday, April 27th, the historic Lodge Room in Highland Park became more than just a venue. It was a rallying cry, a stage for truth, and a space for radical empathy as Plan C launched its 2025 Community Road Trip with a bold, immersive evening of storytelling, science, and social change.

At the heart of this transformative night is The Turnaway Play, by Lesley Lisa Greene—a stunning 70-minute staged reading that takes real science and weaves it into art that demands to be felt. Based on the groundbreaking Turnaway Study conducted by Dr. Diana Greene Foster, a 2023 MacArthur Fellow and researcher at UCSF, the play offers piercing insight into the life-altering consequences of being denied a wanted abortion. It’s unflinching, powerful, and painfully necessary this performance is more than theater. It’s a living, breathing call to action.

But the evening didn’t stop at the footlights. After the reading, the audience was invited into a conversation—one rooted in truth, equity, and the future of reproductive freedom. A panel hosted by the fiercely smart and funny Jenny Yang, featured Francine Coeytaux, co-founder of Plan C,, Dr. Diane Greene Foster, PhD, demographer and professor at USCF, and Xochitl Lopez-Ayala , Policy Advocacy Coordinator of ACCESS REPRODUCTIVE JUSTICE (ACCESS RJ) spoke to the urgency of the moment and the real-world impact of policy, access, and community care.

“Let me say outright: A woman has an inalienable moral and legal right to abortion at any stage of her pregnancy. No politician, judge, nor cleric, and certainly no man, ought to tell a woman what she ought or ought not to do with her body.”

— Ylonda Gault, director of editorial strategy and services at Planned Parenthood and author of ‘Child, Please’

This event marks the official kickoff of the Plan C Community Road Trip—a bold, grassroots initiative designed to ignite conversations across the country and empower communities to fight for reproductive autonomy, access to abortion pills by mail, and a future where choice isn’t just theoretical—it’s tangible, practical, and protected.

And yes, there’s a fundraising drive, because movements like this don’t sustain themselves. Funds raised will support:

  • Plan C’s work to normalize medication abortion and build creative public health campaigns
  • ACCESS RJ’s mission to break down systemic barriers to sexual and reproductive health care, especially for marginalized communities
  • The Turnaway Project’s uses data and art to influence policy and shift the cultural narrative

ACCESS RJ has long been on the front lines. Since 1993, they’ve offered transportation, lodging, and funding to individuals seeking abortion care. But what makes them so crucial to this moment is their unwavering commitment to reproductive justice. That means centering the voices of those most impacted by systemic inequities—and creating a world where everyone can make decisions about their own bodies, families, and futures.

Plan C is leading a revolution. Since 2015, they’ve been on a mission to reimagine access to abortion through the lens of self-determination, innovation, and digital connection. Their work is as visionary as it is vital.

What we must do:

Show up. Listen. Feel. Celebrate the audacity of truth-telling through art. And leave knowing that you are part of something much bigger.

✨ Come for the story. Stay for the shift. Be part of the road ahead. ✨

Road Trip Breakdown

The Plan C Community Road Trip is a nationwide initiative connecting activists, artists, and communities in a collective movement to expand access to abortion care and normalize medication abortion as a safe, accessible option.

From April 29th to November 12th, 2025, we’re hitting the road once again—bigger, bolder, and more determined than ever to unite communities in the fight for abortion access and reproductive freedom.

After the success of last year’s road trip—spanning 32 states, 74 stops, and partnerships with 44 grassroots organizations—we’re leveling up this year with a goal of reaching all 50 states and hosting 100 events. This year’s road trip will feature a dynamic mix of public awareness campaigns, digital organizing collaborations, and on-the-ground community events—all designed to amplify the urgent need for safe, accessible abortion options nationwide.

But this isn’t just about us—it’s about the grassroots power that makes this movement unstoppable. The 2025 Road Trip is our way of highlighting and uplifting grassroots organizations doing the critical, often overlooked work on the ground. By partnering with local groups, we’re making sure that the communities most impacted by abortion restrictions are centered and supported.

This year, we’re building on that foundation—meeting people where they are, sparking action, and growing the movement for reproductive justice. From intimate community pop-ups to larger-scale cultural events, the 2025 Road Trip will create opportunities for engagement and education at every stop. We’ll also drive fundraising efforts to provide critical financial support for smaller organizations working on Self-Managed Abortion (SMA), ensuring that resources reach the communities that need them most.

We’re excited to strengthen ties with powerful grassroots partners like the Turnaway Project, Access RJ, and Punk Rock Saves Lives—organizations that played a critical role in expanding the reach and impact of last year’s campaign. We’ll be collaborating once again with groups such as ID Abortion Rights Collective + Aid, ProVoice Project, KAJA, and NE for Choice to create spaces for education, advocacy, and action. Strategic partnerships with PPPSGV, FAAN, SWC-UCLA, Gather for Good, and others will help us engage new audiences and build deeper connections within local communities.

With a powerful coalition of partners, activists, and supporters behind us, this year’s road trip will not only raise awareness—it will mobilize communities and create real change. Together, we’re making sure that grassroots voices are heard and local movements are strengthened.

The Plan C Community Road Trip is back—louder, larger, and reaching every corner of the country.

This is a movement in motion, powered by collaboration, fueled by creativity, and rooted in the fight for reproductive freedom. We’re teaming up with grassroots organizers to spark connection in all 50 states—plus Guam and Puerto Rico—through pop-ups, panels, performances, and bold community activations centered on truth, agency, and access.
